The area designated for the construction of the new bridge has to deal with daily maritime traffic. Boats can get too close the sites, which could compromise the efficiency of construction work. In order to prevent this, a team of specialists in marine engineering designated in early 2024 a solution for keeping maritime traffic away from construction work, at a safety distance, by using a wide array of buoys, pneumatic fenders and other maritime equipment supplied by Castle Hills.
Our delivery to the Sotra Link project mainly consisted of navigation buoys, which we made sure not only that we had them in stock in Norway, but also that each one of them were made in Norway as well; a sustainability practice. We also supplied pneumatic fenders and a few containers, for different implications in the project.
The key to our fast and efficient deliveries is having the equipment in stock. This enables us to complete our orders at a record speed.
Most of our maritime equipment supplied was second hand and made in Norway, following our sustainability goals for low transport emissions.
Way before the beginning of the construction of the Sotra Link project, even before the current Sotra Bridge, the only connection between Sotra and Bergen were the ferries. Thousands of hard working Norwegians traveled daily to their jobs in the city, and the price to pay was one "Sotra Dollar" 10 Norwegian Kroner.
After just three years of work since 1968, the awaited construction of the Sotra Bridge was completed in 1971, along new roads connected to it. This supposed a drastic change in life quality and opportunities for the region, allowing a fast industrial development on the rise of the Oil & Gas industry. Nowadays, Sotra is one of the industrial hot spots of Norway.
With the sustained growth of population over the past decades, it resulted more and more obvious the need for a new connection between Sotra and Bergen. Every day thousands Norwegians living or working in the region have to suffer hours of traffic, which is what the Sotra Link shalkl solve, in the largest construction project in Norway.
Here at Castle Hills we are proud to have contributed to this project that will enhance the life quality of thousands of families in the region, and that will allow a faster and more sustainable industrial development in the island of Sotra.
