The Swivel Forerunner is the standard swivel in ship chain. It is composed by a central rotating swivel, two common links, one enlarged link, and one final end link. It comes in Grade 1, 2 and 3, the same way as regular ship chain.

Swivel Forerunners come at the same sizes as the ship chain they are connected to. The smaller sizes start at a diameter of 12.5 mm until 50 mm. Medium sizes, used for cruises and ferries have a diameter between 52 and 100 mm. The larger sizes, which are used mostly in cargo ships, start at 102 mm and are able to get up to 175 mm at most.
